Why should I attend or participate?
Students
If you are a student currently involved in research, this is a great opportunity for you, especially if you are going to continue to do research
in the future. As a chemist, you will be expected to participate in seminars throughout your life. This means you will have to create a presentation,
and actually give a talk about the research you are engaged in. Why put it off until later? Start practicing now. Learn how to make those gigantic
posters you see in the department halls. And even if you are not going to do research in the future, this is a great opportunity to present your findings
to your peers in the scientific community - people who are interested in hearing what you have to say.
Even if you are not currently involved in research, this is still an excellent event to attend. There will be professors, industrial representatives,
and company recruiters attending, and now is the perfect chance to meet them and establish a rapport - maybe even start doing research, get hired for a
job, or start a collaboration with another professor or student. Moreover, it is a good chance to see what problems are being tackled by modern chemists.
The presentations will be judged, and there will be monetary awards given, by both professors as well as industrial representatives!
And of course, there is delicious free food, from Olive Garden. Dr. "Bob" Ternansky's extra credit may or may not apply to attending this event.
Professors
This is a good opportunity to see what problems are being tackled by undergraduates. Coming to this event will allow you to meet dedicated undergraduate
chemistry majors engaged in the process of scientific discovery.
This is also a good event to allow undergraduates you have to participate in - encourage them to do so! By coming to this they gain important skills
that are bound to help them in the future as chemists.
At this event, you may participate in the judging of presentations and the awarding of prizes to the best.
Industrial Representatives
At this event, there is a high concentration of dedicated and talented (and fresh) undergraduates - people who could help you and your company.
Attending this event, you will be able to meet these individuals and see what they have to offer.
