Week 1: Monday, January 11th at 6:30 to 8:00 pm
Welcome back to school Tritons! Want to look stylish for your lab this winter quarter? Come to our tie-dye event, where free food will be provided and you will be able to socialize with other chem peers that you’ve surely missed over break!
Week 2: Wednesday, January 18th, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
After a short presentation on the 12 Principles of Green Chemistry, we enjoyed multiple rounds of bingo, where people’s knowledge on the presentation was tested! Multiple winners were awarded prizes in a fun Green Chemistry learning event!
Week 3: Wednesday, January 25th at 6:30 to 8:00 pm
As Lunar New Year passes, it is important to recognize AAPI perspectives in STEM, and specifically chemistry! Dr. Judy Kim, a professor for UCSD in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department, gave a presentation about both her life experiences and the type of research that she does at UCSD.
Week 4: Wednesday, February 1st, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
As midterms approach, ACS-SA held our quarterly Study Jam event, where peers were able to study together after enjoying free food! Students with the same classes were able to socialize and work together on studying for their upcoming exams!
Week 5: Friday, February 10th at 7:00 to 9:00 pm
After a stressful midterm season, ACS-SA had our ice skating event where attendees were able to destress and have fun with peers! After ice skating for two hours, we went next door to Somi Somi where we enjoyed soft-serve and socialized!
Week 6: Friday, February 17th, 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm
ACS-SA hosted our quarterly Student-Faculty Mixer, where students were able to socialize with their professors outside of the classroom. At this event, professors were able to speak about non-academic topics at their leisure and build relationships with students!
Week 7: Friday, February 22nd at 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Students interested in pursuing careers in chemistry after college attended one of our biggest events, our annual Chemistry Career Day! Attendees were able to see presentations and network with representatives from large companies such as General Atomics, Neurocrine Biosciences, and more! Attendees enjoyed food while being able to connect directly with companies on a personal basis!
Week 8: Wednesday, March 1st, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Dr. Kim Albizati gave his “How to Interview” talk, which comes directly from his experience working in industry. He gave insight on what he and other employers specifically look for in applicants and how to succeed in interviews.
Week 9: Wednesday, March 8th at 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm
Alumni from UCSD attended both in-person and over Zoom to talk about their experiences at UCSD and after, as well as giving any advice and tips for those still at UCSD. Alumni of various backgrounds attended, such as those in Ph. D programs, or those working in industry.
Week 10: Wednesday, March 15th, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Before Finals Week, ACS-SA hosted a great event to refresh on general Chemistry knowledge while also having fun in an exciting competition! Challenges such as hitting the griddy were performed while answering difficult chemistry problems! Rewards were given out for those that correctly answered problems and the competition ended in a competitive 4-way tiebreaker!
